Make squares of Bucilla "Wool and Shetland Wool," 2 oz balls;
or Bear Brand, Fleisher's or Botany Machine Washable Winsom, 2 oz skeins;
or equivalent

Use Crochet Hook, Size G hook or size required to obtain gauge

GAUGE: Each Square approximately 8 ins. square

With B, ch 38 for lower edge.

Row 1–right side–Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next ch *; repeat between *'s 4 times more, mark last ch skipped on foundation ch, repeat between *'s 9 times, mark last ch skipped on foundation ch, repeat between *'s 4 times; 37 sts.

Row 2–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * across row.

Row 3–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc *; repeat between *'s once more; † ch 6, keeping ch 6 to right side, work sl st in marked ch on foundation ch, ch 6, skip next 9 sts on row 2 (5 ch and 4 sc), work 1 sc in next sc †; repeat between *'s 4 times, repeat between †'s once, repeat between *'s twice.

Row 4–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc,* ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc *; repeat between *'s once more, † ch 1, skip next ch on row 2, 1 dc in next sc †; repeat between †'s 3 times more, ch 1, 1 sc in next sc on row 3, repeat between *'s 4 times, repeat between †'s 4 times, ch 1, 1 sc in next sc on row 3, repeat between *'s twice.

Row 5–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc *; repeat between *'s once more, † ch 6, sl st in ch 1 space directly above previous sl st, ch 6, skip next 9 sts (5 ch and 4 dc), 1 sc in next sc †; repeat between *'s 4 times, repeat between †'s once, repeat between *'s twice.

Row 35–Repeat row 5, skipping 5 chs and 4 sc, instead of 5 chs and 4 dc.
