Make squares of Bucilla "Wool and Shetland Wool," 2 oz balls;
or Bear Brand, Fleisher's or Botany Machine Washable Winsom, 2 oz skeins;
or equivalent

Use Crochet Hook, Size G or size required to obtain gauge

GAUGE: Each Square approximately 8 ins. square

With A, ch 35 for lower edge.

Row 1–wrong side–Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch; 33 dc.

Note–Turning ch is counted as 1 dc.

Row 2–Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in back loop of 2nd dc, 1 dc in back loop of each remaining dc, 1 dc in top of turning ch.

Row 3–Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in both loops of 2nd dc, 1 dc in both loops of each remaining dc, 1 dc in top of turning ch.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until 16 rows–about 8 ins. from beg. Fasten off.

Loop Trimming–Ch loops are worked from right side on surface of square, working into free loops of first and all odd-numbered rows.

First Loop Row-With right side facing, join yarn as follows:–With A make loop on hook, work 1 sc in free loop of 2nd dc in first row of square, * ch 11, skip next 5 dc, 1 sc in free loop of next dc; re¬peat from * 4 times more; 5 ch loops.

Fasten off.

2nd Loop Row–With right side facing, join yarn as before in 2nd dc in 5th row of square, ch 5, insert hook into ch loop below and also into free loop of 5th dc in 3rd row of square, work 1 sc through loop and dc, fastening loop; * ch 11, insert hook into next ch loop, skip next 5 dc on 3rd row, insert hook into free loop of next dc, and work sc through loop and dc; repeat from * 3 times more, ch 5, 1 sc in free loop of 2nd dc from end of 5th row. Fasten off.

3rd Loop Row-With right side facing, join yarn with sl st in first sc of previous loop row, * ch 11, skip next 5 dc of same row, inserting hook into ch loop below and into next dc, work 1 sc; repeat from * 3 times more, ch 11, skip 5 dc, join with sl st in last sc of previous loop row. Fasten off.

4th Loop Row–With right side facing, join yarn as before in 2nd dc in 9th row of square, ch 5, insert hook in free loop below and into 5th dc in 7th row of square, work 1 sc; * ch 11, insert hook into next ch loop, skip next 5 dc in 7th row, insert hook into next dc and work 1 sc; repeat from * 3 times more, ch 5, 1 sc in 2nd dc from end of 9th row.

Fasten off.

5th Loop Row–Repeat 3rd loop row.

6th Loop Row–With right side facing, join yarn as before in 2nd dc in 13th row of square, ch 5, insert hook in free loop below and into 5th dc in 11th row of square, work 1 sc, * ch 11, insert hook into next ch loop, skip next 5 dc in 11th row, insert hook into next dc and work 1 sc; repeat from * 3 times more, ch 5, 1 sc in 2nd dc from end of 13th row.

Fasten off.

7th Loop Row–With right side facing, join yarn with sl st in first sc of previous loop row, ch 5, work 1 sc in 5th dc of 15th row, ch 5, insert hook into next ch loop, skip next 5 dc on 13th row, insert hook into next dc and work 1 sc, * ch 5, skip next 5 dc on 15th row, sc in next dc, ch 5, skip next 5 dc on 13th row, sc through next loop and next dc; repeat from * 3 times more, end last repeat, ch 5, sl st in last sc of previous loop row. Fasten off.

Sew in ends.
