Crochet Shopping Bag Pattern

You Need: Columbia-Minerva Yarn, 2 balls.
"Boye" crochet hook Size I or size to give gauge.
Two 7" diameter circular handles.

Gauge: 3 dc = 1"

Beg at center bottom of bag ch 6, join with sl st to first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 13 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3 (14 dc counting ch-3).

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in sp before next dc, *3 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * to last dc, 3 dc in last dc, sl st in top of ch-3 (35 dc).

Rnd 3: Ch 3, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around, join with sl st to top of ch-3 (52 dc).

Rnd 4: * Ch 5, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, [ch 5, sk 1 dc, sc in next dc] 10 times, ch 5, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc *; rep between *'s once, (24 lps).

Rnd 5: Sl st in next 3 ch, turn, [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 5 times, * work 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in next sc for a shell, sc in next lp *, [ch 5, sc in next lp] 11 times; rep between *'s once, [ch 5, sc in next lp] 6 times, ending in lp with 3 sl sts..

Rnd 6: Sl st to center of next lp, turn, [ch 5, sc in center of next lp] 6 times, * shell in next sc, sc in ch-3 lp, shell in next sc, sc in next lp*, [ch 5, sc in center of next lp] 10 times; rep between *'s once, [ch 5, sc in center of next lp] 4 times, sl st to center of next lp, turn.

Rnd 7: [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 4 times, ch 5, sc in ch-3 of shell, * work shell in next sc, sc in next ch-3 lp *, [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 10 times, ch 5, sc in ch-3 lp of shell; rep between *'s once [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 6 times, sl st to center of next lp, turn.

Rnd 8: Work ch 5 and sc in each ch-5 lp and in each ch-3 lp of Rnd 7 (24 lps). Sl st to center of next lp, turn.

Rnd 9: [Ch 5, sc in lp] twice, * shell in next sc, sc in next ch-5 lp *; t [ch 5, sc in next lp] 5 times; rep between *'s once t; rep between t's twice; [ch 5, sc in next lp] 3 times. Sl st to center of next ch-5 lp. Turn.

Rnd 10: [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 3 times, * shell in next sc, sc in next ch-3 lp, shell in next sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 4 times; rep from * twice, shell in next sc, sc in next ch-3 lp, shell in next sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, ch 5, sc in last ch-5 lp, sl st to center of next ch-5 lp. Turn.

Rnd 11: Work pats and shells as in Rnd 7.

Rnd 12: Rep Rnd 8. Do not turn or sl st in next lp of last rnd. Rep Rnds 5-8.

Divide for opening- Row 1: Sl st across next ch-5 lp, turn, ch 5, sc in same ch-5 lp, [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] twice, shell in next sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 5 times, shell in next sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] twice, sc in next sc, turn.

Row 2: [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] twice, *shell in next sc, sc in next ch-3, shell in next sc, sc in next ch-5 lp *, [ch-5, sc in next ch-5 lp] 4 times; rep between *'s, [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp] twice, turn. Keeping pat as established work 2 rows more.

Next Row: In first st work dc, * 2 dc in ch-5 lp, 1 dc in next sc; rep from *, end dc in 5th ch of ch-5.

Next Row: In first st work dc, decrease 1 st, 1 dc in next st; rep from * to end. Work 4 rows of 1 dc in each dc, ch 3, turn at end of rows. Fasten off. Join yarn at other side and work to correspond to first side. Fold last 2 rows of dc over handles and overcast to form hem.
