MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz pull skein):
Dress: 8 (9-10) skeins
Beret & Scarf: 2 skeins
Needles: One each "Boye" crochet hooks Sizes F & H and one pair knitting needles Size 7
Gauge: Skirt; 1 pat to 3 inches across. Waist; 5 sts to 1 inch; 13 rows to 2 inches.
DRESS
Skirt: Starting at waistline with Size F hook, ch 96 (104-112). Join with sl st to first st, careful not to twist chain.
Row 1: Ch 2 to count as first hdc, 1 hdc in each ch around: 96 (104-112) hdc, join to first st. Change to Size H hook.
Row 2: Ch 3 to count as first dc, 3 dc in base of ch-3 for ½ shell, * skip 3 sts, in next st work 1 dc, ch 1 and 1 dc for V st, skip 3 sts, work 7 dc in next st for a shell, repeat from * around, end skip 3 sts, 1 V st in next st, skip 3, 3 dc in base of ch-3 to complete first shell.
Row 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 V st in next V st, * 1 dc in each of the 7 dc of next shell, 1 V st in next V st, repeat from * around, end 1 dc in each of first 3 dc on next shell, join to ch-3.
Rows 4 & 5: Repeat Row 3.
Row 6: Ch 3 for ½ V st, 7 dc shell in next V st, * V st in center dc of next shell, 1 shell in next V st, repeat from * around, end 1 dc in base of ch-3, ch 1, join to ch-3 to complete V st.
Row 7: Ch 3 for ½ V, 1 dc in each of 7 dc of shell, * 1 V st in next V st, 1 dc in each of the 7 dc of next shell, repeat from * around, end 1 dc on base of ch-3, ch 1, join to ch-3 to complete V.
Rows 8 & 9: Repeat Row 7.
Repeat Rows 2 through 9 for pat working to desired length, end with Row 2 or 6. Join and fasten off.
Waist—Back: With Size 7 needles cast on 86 (95-101) sts.
Row 1—Wrong side: P 2, * K 1, P 2, repeat from * across.
Row 2: K 2, * P 1, K 2, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows for pat, working to 12 inches from start or desired length to underarm. Width across back is 17¼ (19-20) inches.
Armholes: Bind off 5 (6-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 4 (5-6) times. Work on the 68 (73-75) sts to 6¾ (7½-8) inches straight above underarm. Width across back is 13½ (14½-15) inches.
Shoulders: Bind off 7 sts at beg of next 4 rows then 5 (6-7) at beg of next 2 rows. Sl rem'ing 30 (33-33) sts to a holder for neck.
Front: Work same as back until armholes measure 4¾ (5½-6) inches.
Neck & Shoulder: Work 28 (29-30) and sl them to a holder, work next 12 (15-15) and sl them to 2nd holder for neck, work to end. Dec 1 at neck every row 6 times then every other row 3 times And At The Same Time when armhole matches back armhole, bind off 7 sts at armhole edge twice then 5 (6-7) at same edge once. Starting at opposite neck edge, work other side.
Sleeves: With Size 7 needles cast on 41 (44-47) sts. Work in pat as on back for 2 inches. Working added sts in pat, inc 1 st each side on next row then every 8th row 9 (10-10) times more. Work on the 61 (66-69) sts to 17 inches or desired length to underarm. Width across sleeve is 12¼ (13-13¾) inches.
Sleeve Cap: Bind off 5 (6-7) at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 each side every other row until 25 (26-25) sts rem. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off.
Neckband: Seam left shoulder. On right side starting at open shoulder, work across the 30 (33-33) sts of back in ribbing as established, pick up and K 18 sts along left side, work in ribbing across the 12 (15-15) on holder, pick up and K 18 along other side. Work on the 78 (84-84) sts as follows:
Row 1—Wrong side: P 1, K 1, * P 2, K 1, repeat from * to last st, P 1.
Row 2: K the K sts and P the P sts as they face you. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 for 1½ inches. Bind off in ribbing.
Seam right shoulder, joining neckband. Fold neckband in half and sew to wrong side. Sew sleeves in place then sew side and sleeve seams. With right sides tog, sew skirt to waist with matching yarn, careful to have enough "give" to seam so as not to break.
Belt: With Size F hook, ch 10.
Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook and in each rem'ing ch, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Counting turning ch as first dc, work 1 dc in each dc, ch 3, turn. Repeat Row 2, working to desired length. Fasten off.
SCARF
With Size H hook ch 20.
Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch across: 18 dc including ch-3, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: With ch-3 as first dc work 3 dc in next st for ½ shell, skip 3 dc, 1 V st in next st as on skirt, skip 3 dc, 7 dc shell in next dc, skip 3, 1 V in next dc, skip 3, 4 dc in last st for ½ shell, ch turn.
Rows 3, 4 & 5: 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 V in next V, 1 dc in each dc of shell, 1 V in next V, 1 dc in each of last 3 dc and turning-ch, ch 3, turn.
Row 6: 1 dc in next dc, 7 dc shell in next V, V st in center of shell, 1 shell in next V, 1 dc in last dc and in ch-3, ch 3, turn.
Continue in pat, ch 3 to turn at end of each row, working to about 39 inches or desired length, end with complete pat, then work 1 row of dc and fasten off.
BERET
With Size H hook ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring. Ch 2 to count as first hdc, work 7 more hdc in ring, join.
Row 2: Ch 3 to count as 1 dc, 1 dc in base of ch-3 for an inc, 2 dc in each st around, join: 16 sts.
Row 3: Ch 3 for first dc, 2 dc in next dc, * 1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * around, join: 24 sts.
Row 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, * 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * to last st, 1 dc in last st, join: 32 sts including starting ch-3.
Row 5: Ch 3 for ½ V st, skip 1 st, 3 dc shell in next st, * skip 1, 1 dc, ch 1 and 1 dc in next st for a V st, skip 1, shell in next st, repeat from * around, skip last st, 1 dc in base of ch-3, ch 1, join to complete V st.
Row 6: Ch 3 for ½ V, 1 dc in first dc of shell, 3 dc in center dc, 1 dc in next dc, * 1 V in center of next V, 1 dc in first dc of shell, 3 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, repeat from * around, 1 dc in base of turning-ch, ch 1, join.
Row 7: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of first 2 dc of shell, 3 dc in center dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, * 1 V in center of next V, 1 dc in each of first 2 dc of shell, 3 dc in center dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, repeat from * around, 1 dc in base of ch-3, ch 1, join.
Row 8: Ch 3, 3 dc in base of ch-3 for ½ shell, * 1 V in center of next shell, 7 dc shell in next V, repeat from * around, end 1 V in center of last shell, 3 dc in base of ch-3 to complete shell.
Rows 9, 10 & 11: Repeat Row 3 of skirt.
Rows 12 & 13: Repeat Rows 6 & 7 of skirt.
Row 14: Ch 2, 1 hdc in each of next 2 dc, * skip 1 dc, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, repeat from * around, join. Work 2 rows of hdc, join and fasten off.
Make a pompon for top and attach.
