Color A (Dk. Brown) 3 skeins
Color B (Lt. Brown) 3 skeins

Needles: One "Boye" crochet hook Size G or H
Gauge: 2 motifs at one edge 5 inches. Width of each stripe is 4½ inches
FIRST STRIPE: With A—ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring.
First Motif: Ch 3 to count as 1 dc, work 13 more dc in ring, ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first dc, 1 sc in next dc, [ch 4, work 1 sc in each of next 2 dc] 6 times, mark 3rd ch-4 loop with colored thread, ch 6, turn.
2nd Motif: Sl st in first free ch-4 loop, ch 3, turn, 13 dc in ch-6 space, sl st to first sc of first motif, ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first dc, 1 sc in next dc, [ch 4, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc] 6 times, sl st in next free ch-4 loop of previous motif, ch 6, turn.
3rd Motif: Sl st in first free ch-4 loop of adjoining motif, ch 3, turn, 13 dc in ch-6 space, sl st in next free ch-4 loop of adjoining motif, ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first dc from hook, 1 sc in next dc, [ch 4, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc] 6 times, sl st in next free ch-4 loop of adjoining motif, ch 6, turn. Repeat 3rd motif for pat, careful to leave 3 ch-4 loops free at each side of stripe, working until there are 38 motifs in stripe. Work 1 more motif, omitting last ch 6. Fasten off.
2nd STRIPE: Marking 3rd ch-4 loop as before, with B—work same as first stripe until the 13 dc of 2nd motif have been completed. Sl st to first sc of first B motif then join to first stripe as follows: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in the marked ch-4 loop of first stripe, ch 2, 1 sc in each of the next 2 dc of 2nd motif on 2nd stripe, ch 2, sl st in first ch-4 loop of next motif of first stripe, ch 2, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in 2nd loop of 2nd motif of first stripe, ch 2, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, [ch 4, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc] 3 times, sl st in next free ch-4 loop of previous motif; ch 6, turn. Work 1 motif same as 3rd motif of first stripe then continue in pat until 13 dc of next motif have been completed, sl st in next free ch-4 loop of adjoining motif, ch 1, turn. Continue working motifs of 2nd stripe, joining to first stripe as before until there are 38 motifs in stripe. Work 1 more motif, omitting last ch 6. Fasten off.
3rd STRIPE: Marking 3rd ch-4 loop as before, with C—work same as first stripe until 13 dc of 2nd motif have been completed, sl st to first sc of first C motif then join to previous stripe as follows: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in the marked ch-4 loop of previous stripe, * [ch 2, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in next free ch-4 loop of previous stripe] twice, ch 2, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, [ch 4, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc] 3 times, sl st in next ch-4 loop of previous motif, ch 6, turn. Work 1 motif same as 3rd motif of first stripe then continue in pat until 13 dc of next motif have been completed, sl st in next free ch-4 loop of adjoining motif, ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in next free ch-4 loop on previous stripe, repeat from * until 38 motifs have been completed then work 1 more motif, omitting last ch 6. Fasten off. Following directions of 3rd stripe, work and join 1 stripe each of D, A, B, C, E, A, B, C, D, A and B.
FRINGE: Wind Color C ten times around an 8-inch cardboard. Cut open at one end. Fold in half. Starting in 2nd motif at outer edge of last B stripe, * draw loop of strands through space then draw ends through loop and tighten. Repeat from * in every other motif in the following Color sequence: B, E, C, A, B, E, C, A and C. Starting in first motif at outer edge of first A stripe, make fringe in B then every other motif in following Color sequence: A, B, C, E, D, B, A, D and E.
