Thread Colors:

Pink or flesh, white, red, small bits of black, blue

Crochet Instructions:

This ornament is not worked as a tube.

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Do not chain and turn. Always use the top loop of every st throughout pattern.

Using pink or flesh, chain 4, sl st to join. (4)

Rounds 1-3: 2 sc in each st around. (8) (16) (32)

Rounds 4-5: 1 sc in each st around. (32)

Round 6: * 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the third st, repeat from * around. (42)

Round 7: 1 sc in each st around. (42)

Round 8: * Using red, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in second st, repeat from * around. (63)

Round 9: 1 sc in each st around. (63)

Round 10: 1 sc in each of the next 20 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Hat. Rows 11-16: Using both loops skip first 3 sts, 1 sc in each st, ch 1 and turn.

Row 17: Continue dec. to point of hat, break off and fasten.

Top of Hat. Using white, Sl st sc into top of hat, ch 10, sl st in same st (for hanger), * ch 4, 1 sc in same st, repeat from * 5 more times; break off and fasten, weaving ends in.

Hat Trim and Beard. Using white, sl st sc into edge of round 9, below hat, * ch 4, 1 sc in next st, continue around face and across red of hat, continue around face halfway up face, turn, working back and forth in a half circle, filling lower half of face, leaving room for mouth, then across mouth opening; break off and fasten, weaving ends in.

Face. Embroider now or after spraying. Use black, making French knots for eyes and 3 running stitches above eyes for eyelashes. Outline around black eyes with blue running stitches, and around blue with white running stitches. With red, cover nose area with satin stitches. Using red, outline mouth with running stitches.

Shaping Instructions:

See General Instructions for pinning and spraying. Fluff up beard, moustache and lower trim on hat. Shape hanger up and into a diamond or other open shape.
