Scarf Measures approximately 4 ¼" x 64" including fringe. Directions for mittens are for child's size Small; changes for Medium and Large are in parentheses.

RED HEART® ''Strata™'': Scarf: 5 Ounces No. 8529 Surf; Mittens: 2 ounces No. 8529 Surf.

Crochet Hook: 5.5 mm [US I-9].

Yarn needle.

GAUGE: 10 sts = 3"; 14 rows = 4" in sc. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

SCARF

Ch 15.

Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 14 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Rep Row 2 until 58" from beg, end wrong side row.

Fringe Row: * Sl st in next sc, ch 11, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next 9 ch; rep from * across. Fasten off.

With wrong side facing attach yarn in first st of beg ch; ch 1, sc in each ch across; turn -14 sc. Rep Fringe row. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

MITTENS

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:

Inc (increase) = work 2 sc in stitch indicated.

Dec (decrease) = draw up a loop in next 2 sc, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Ch 6.

Ribbing: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 5 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across; turn.

Rep Row 2 until 5 (6, 7)" from beg. Turn to work across row ends.

Hand-Row 1 (Right Side): Ch 1, work 22 (24, 26) sc evenly spaced across row ends; turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, inc in first sc, sc to last sc; inc in last sc; turn - 24 (26, 28) sc.

Row 4: Ch 1, inc in first sc, sc in next 8 (9, 10) sc, [inc in next sc] 6 times, sc in next 8 (9, 10) sc, inc in last sc; turn - 32 (34, 36) sc.

Work 1 (1, 2) rows even in sc.

Next Row (Thumb): Ch 1, sc in first 12 (13, 14) sc, skip next 8 sc, sc in last 12 (13, 14) sc; turn - 24 (26, 28) sc.

Work 4 (5, 6) rows even.

Next Row: Ch 1, dec, sc in next 7 (8, 9) sc, dec, sc in next 2 sc, dec, sc in next 7 (8, 9) sc, dec; turn - 20 (22, 24) sc.

Work 2 (3, 4) rows even.

Next Row: Ch 1, dec, sc in next 5 (6, 7) sc, dec, sc in next 2 sc, dec, sc in next 5 (6, 7) sc, dec; turn - 16 (18, 20) sc.

Work 2 (3, 3) rows even.

Next Row: Ch 1, dec, sc in next 3 (4, 5) sc, dec, sc in next 2 sc, dec, sc in next 3 (4, 5) sc, dec; turn -12 (14, 16) sc.

Next Row: Ch 1, [dec] 6 (7, 8) times. Fasten off leaving long end for sewing.

THUMB: Attach yarn to first skipped thumb st; ch 1, sc in 8 sc, work 1 (2, 3) sc in hand; turn - 9 (10, 11) sc.

Work 3 (4, 4) rows even.

Next Row: Ch 1, [dec] 4 (5, 5) times, sc in last 1 (0, 1) sc - 5 (5, 6) sc. Fasten off leaving long end for sewing.

FINISHING: Sew side and thumb seams. Weave in ends.
