With the news that the Smurfs are going to be starring in a new live action movie, to be released in 2011, those loveable blue creatures are making their way into popularity once again.
Most people will probably remember the Smurfs as those loveable little blue creatures who lived in the deep forest in mushroom houses and were constantly hunted by the evil Gargamel and his pet cat, Azrael, in the 1980s cartoon series. During that decade, they saw their highest popularity with both kids and adults alike since they're creation in 1958.
To make a Smurf Halloween costume is relatively easy considering the Smurfs, all male except for Smurfette, look and dress more or less alike - blue skin, white trousers with a hole for their short tails, white hat in the style of a Phrygian cap, and each typically has an additional accessory that identifies the Smurf's personality.
For your Smurf costume, you could stick to the generic, or jazz it up and call yourself one of the specific personalities. Use red overalls instead of white, put on a bushy white beard and call yourself Papa Smurf. Or put a tattoo on your arm of a heart with an arrow through it to transform into Hefty Smurf. You could always be Brainy Smurf, with his big, black, round glasses!
