Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton or J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 1 ball each of two contrasting colors (30 Lavender and 9 Yellow; 26 Nile Green and 88 Peach; 126 Spanish Red and 84 Beige). Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3. 1 pair of soles No. 4.

With main color, ch 9, skip 1 st, 1 s c in each of next 8 sts, * ch 1, turn. 2 s c in first st, 1 s c over s c across, 2 s c in last st. Repeat from * until there are 30 sts across. Then increase at the beginning only of every row until there are 36 sts across. Work evenly until there are 28 rows from the start. Work 14 sts, turn, and skip the 1st st to make a decrease, s c across. Continue to decrease at inside edge until there are 4 sts left, then fasten off. Skip 8 sts for center, attach thread at 9th st and work other side to correspond. With the contrasting color, work from 1st ch around outside edge with 1 s c into each row to 1st center corner, and work fringe as follows: * Ch 20, s c into same place as last s c, ch 20, s c in same place, 1 s c in next s c. Repeat from * across to second corner, complete edge with 1 s c in each row. From wrong side, attach thread and work 1 row of sl st around. With contrasting color, buttonhole around soles.
