Kitty Litter Crunchies Recipe

Teenagers are always trying to gross out their parents and this recipe did the trick for me.

The cat droppings are a chocolate, oatmeal no-bake cookie. The kitty litter is nothing more than Grape-Nuts, however, put them together and it looks disgusting… and kids love them!

The recipe below is standard, however, you can add coconut, M&Ms or other candies if you’d like.

Add a new kitty litter scoop or similar looking spoon and you’re all set to wow your kids and party visitors.

Ingredients

½ cup (1 stick) butter
2 cups granulated sugar
3 Tbsp. cocoa powder
3 cups oatmeal
½ cup peanut butter
1 tsp. vanilla
½ cup evaporated milk
1 box Grape-nuts cereal

Optional – these will make the ‘cat droppings’ more glossy and soft:
¼ cup chocolate milk mix
¼ cup peanut butter

Directions

In a pot, add the butter, sugar, cocoa and evaporated milk. Heat over medium heat to melt butter and turn off the eye.

Bring to a boil. Continue boiling for 1 minute, then remove from heat.

Stir in peanut butter, vanilla and oats. If including extra peanut butter and chocolate milk mix, add those as well.

The consistency will be similar to this.

Lay out a sheet of wax paper.

Using your hands, take about 1 tbsp. of the oatmeal mix and lightly shape into an oblong roll, similar to a tootsie roll.

Next holding a short distance above the wax paper, drop the roll. This will create “cat dropping” like shapes. Repeat the process using less mix on some so the droppings vary in size.  Allow droppings to harden slightly (about 15 minutes).

Next, take a new kitty litter pan or a baking pan and line it with a clean plastic bag to act as the kitty litter liner.

Now, pour the box of grape nuts into the pan. This is considered the ‘litter’.

Finally, place the cat droppings into the cereal, burying some and leaving some exposed. Cover with plastic wrap until ready to serve.
