TLC® "Cotton Plus™", Art. E516 (3 ½ ounce balls): Cap: 2 ½ Ounces No. 3706 Lt. Rose; Scarf: 10 ounces No. 3706 Lt. Rose.
Crochet Hook: 4mm [US G-6].
2 Packages 6x9mm pastel pony beads; sewing needle and thread; scissors; 5" wide cardboard.
GAUGE: 15 sts = 4"; 12 rows = 4 ½" in pat. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
CAP: Beg at brim, ch 78.
Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 77 sc.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip first sc, dc in next sc, * ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next 2 sc; rep from * across; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc, * sc in sp, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * across; turn.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 for pat until 4 ½" from beg, end Row 2.
Shape Crown-Next Row (NOTE: Count each sp as a st.): Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc; [draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook - sc2tog made; sc in next 2 sts] 18 times, sc2tog, sc in top of ch-3; turn - 58 sts.
Next Row: Ch 3, skip first sc, [dc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, dc in next sc] 19 times; turn.
Next Row: Ch 1, sc in first dc, [sc2tog, sc in next st] 19 times; turn - 39 sts.
Next Row: Ch 3, skip first sc, [dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st] 12 times; [yo and draw up a lp in next st, yo and draw through 2 lps] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook - dc2tog made; turn - 38 sts.
Next Row: Ch 1, [sc2tog] 19 times; turn -19 sts.
Next Row: Ch 3, skip first st, [dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st] 6 times; turn.
Next Row: Ch 1, [sc2tog] 9 times, sc in last st; turn - 10 sts.
Next Row: Ch 1, [sc2tog] 5 times - 5 sts. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Edging: With wrong side facing, attach yarn at lower edge; ch 1, work 77 sc across; turn; work 2 more sc rows. Fasten off. Gather rem sts at top and secure; sew back seam.
Beads: With sewing needle and thread, sew beads on right side of brim on every 3rd st on the next-to-last Edging row.
SCARF: Leaving a 5" end before the slip knot, ch 239.
Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 238 sc.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip first sc, * dc in next 2 sc, ch 1, skip next sc; rep from * to last 3 sc; dc in last 3 sc; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 3 dc, * sc in sp, sc in next 2 dc; rep from * to last st; sc in top of ch-3; turn. Rep Rows 2 and 3 eight more times.
Edging-Next 3 Rows: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Fasten off, leaving a 5" end.
With wrong side facing and leaving a 5" end, attach yarn to opposite side of beg ch; ch 1, work 3 rows of 238 sc for Edging. Fasten off, leaving a 5" end.
Finishing-Beads: With sewing needle and thread, sew beads to every 4th st on right and wrong sides on next-to-last Edging row on each long edge.
Fringe: Wrap yarn around the cardboard; cut wraps on one edge to make 10" lengths. Draw 2 lengths through a row end until all 4 yarn ends are even; thread these ends through a bead; with bead close to scarf edge, tie strands in an overhand knot below bead, gently pushing knot up to bead before tightening. Include beginning and ending ends in fringe where appropriate. Trim fringe ends.
