AUNT LYDIA'S® "Baby Denim", Art. 156, 75% acrylic, 25% cotton (400 yard/365 meter balls): Amount-Cardigan: 4 (4 ½, 5, 6) Ounces CA, ½ ounce CB, Hat: 2 (2 ½) ounces CA, small amount CB.
CA = No. 1023 Baby Yellow; CB = No. 1001 White.
Crochet Hook: 5 mm [US H-8].
One ⅝" button; sewing needle and thread; yarn needle.
GAUGE: In dc rows - 15 sts = 4"; 8 rows = 4". CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
To Fit Chest: 17 (19, 21, 22)".
Finished Chest Measurement: 19 (21, 23, 25)".
Hat Circumference: 14 (18)".
CARDIGAN-BACK: With CA, ch 38 (42, 46, 50).
Row 1 (Right Side): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 36 (40, 44, 48) sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip first dc, dc in next dc and in each dc across, dc in top of ch-3; turn.
Rep Row 2 until back measures 9 (10, 11, 11)" from beg. Fasten off.
LEFT FRONT: ** With CA, ch 20 (22, 24, 26). Work in dc same as back across 18 (20, 22, 24) sts until 8 (9, 10, 10)" from beg, end wrong side row; turn.**
Shape Neck: Ch 3, skip first dc, dc in next 10 (11, 13, 14) dc; [yo and draw up a lp in next dc, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook- dec made; turn, leaving last 5 (6, 6, 7) sts unworked - 12 (13, 15, 16) sts. Work 1 row even in dc. Fasten off.
RIGHT FRONT: Work same as left front from ** to **. Shape Neck: Ch 1, sl st in first 6 (7, 7, 8) dc, ch 3, dec over next 2 dc, dc in each st to end - 12 (13, 15, 16) sts. Work 1 row even in dc. Fasten off.
SLEEVES: With CA, ch 23 (27, 27, 29). Work in dc across 21 (25, 25, 27) sts, increasing 1 dc each end of 3rd row, then every 2 (2, 2, 3) rows until there are 31 (35, 37, 37) sts. Work even in dc until sleeve measures 6 ½ (7, 8, 8 ½)" from beg. Fasten off.
Edging: With wrong side facing, attach CB at lower edge; ch 1, sc in same st and in each st across. Fasten off.
FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Mark 4 ¼ (4 ½, 5, 5)" down from shoulder on fronts and back. Sew sleeves in place between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams. Edging: With right side facing, attach CB at a side seam and work 1 rnd sc evenly around entire edge of cardigan, taking care to keep work flat; join to first sc. Fasten off. Button Loop: With right side facing, attach CB 1" below right neck edge; ch 4; sl st to top of neck edge. Fasten off. Sew button to left edge. Fold up sleeve cuffs. Weave in ends.
HAT: With CA, ch 4; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 13 (16) dc in ring; join to top of ch-3 - 14 (17) sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each dc around; join - 28 (34) sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc; rep from * around; join - 42 (51) sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next 3 (2) dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 (2) dc; rep from * to last 2 (0) dc; dc in last 2 (0) dc; join - 52 (68) sts.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc and each dc around; join. Rep Rnd 5 until 7 (9)" from beg. Fasten off.
Edging: With wrong side facing, attach CB in joining; ch 1, sc in same st and in each st around; join to first sc. Fasten off. Turn brim to right side. Weave in ends.
Flower: With CB ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 3rd ch from hook **, sc in same ch as first sc *; rep from * to * 4 more times, then from * to ** once more. Join with a sl st to first sc. Fasten off. Attach to top of hat.
