Directions are for Petite Size (6 to 8). Changes for Small (10 to 12), Medium (14 to 16) and Large (18 to 20) are in parentheses.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz pull skein): 5 (6-7-8) skeins
Needles: One each "Boye" crochet hooks Sizes G, H & I.
Gauge: Pattern on G hook—3 sts to 1 inch
JUMPER
Starting at lower edge with Size I hook, ch 96 (108-120-132). Careful not to twist chain, join with sl st to form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 2 to count as 1 hdc, 1 hdc in each st around: 96 (108-120-123) hdc, join with sl st.
Row 2: Ch 5 for first tr, skip 1 st, 1 tr in next st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 tr in next st, repeat from * around, ch 1, skip last st, join with sl st to 4th st of ch-5: 48 (54-60-66) tr.
Row 3: Ch 4 for first st, * 1 tr in ch-1 st, 1 tr in next tr, repeat from * around, join to top of ch-4: 96 (108-120-132) tr.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 2, * 1 hdc in next ch-1 st, 1 hdc in next tr, repeat from * around, join to ch-2: 96 (108-120-132) sts.
Row 6: Ch 4, 2 dc in base of ch, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, * in next st work 2 dc, ch 1 and 2 dc for a shell, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, repeat from * around, end 1 dc in base of ch-4 to complete shell: 16 (18-20-22) shells.
Row 7: Sl st in ch-1 of first shell, ch 3 for first dc, 1 shell in next single dc, * 1 dc in ch-1 space of next shell, 1 shell in next single dc, repeat from *
around, join to top of ch-3.
Row 8: Ch 4, 2 dc in base of ch 4, * 1 dc in space of shell, 1 shell in next single dc, repeat from * around, end 1 dc in base of ch-4 to complete shell, join to 3rd st of ch-4.
Row 9: Ch 2, 1 hdc in each dc and in each ch-1 space around, join to ch-2: 96 (108-120-132) hdc.
Repeat Rows 2 through 9 for pat, working 1 repeat of pat with Size H hook, then change to Size G hook and work in pat, ending with Row 5 of 4th pat. Fasten off. Width at bustline is 32 (36-40-44) inches.
Back Armholes: Mark the ch-2 of last row for side seam. Counting marked st as first st, join yarn in 7th hdc to the left, ch 4, 1 dc in base of ch-4, ch 1, 2 dc in base of ch-4, * skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, skip 2, 1 shell in next st, repeat from * 5 (6-7-8) times more, ch 4, turn.
Row 2: 1 dc in center of first shell, * 1 shell in single dc, 1 dc in center of shell, repeat from * across, 1 dc in turning-ch, ch 4, turn.
Row 3: 2 dc in single dc, 1 dc in center of next shell, * 1 shell in next single dc, 1 dc in next shell, repeat from * across, end 2 dc in last single dc, 1 dc in turning-ch, ch 2, turn: ½ shell dec'd at each side.
Turning at end of each row, continue even in pat until the 3rd shell row of 5th shell stripe has been completed.
Medium & Large only work 1 more hdc row.
All Sizes fasten off.
Front: Skip 12 hdc on last long row for underarm, join yarn in next st, ch 4, 1 shell in base of ch-4 as on back, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, * skip 2 sts, 1 shell in next st, skip 2, 1 dc in next st, repeat from * until there are 3 shells and 2 single dc's across for Petite, 3 shells and 3 single dc's for Small, 3 shells, 3 single dc's and ½ shell for Medium and 4 shells and 4 single dc's for Large.
All Sizes ch 4, turn. Continue in pat, dec'ing ½ shell at armhole on 3rd shell row as on back.
Keeping armhole edge even, dec 1 st at neck by working off 2 sts as 1 on each of the next 3 rows. Continue in pat to match back armhole. Fasten off. Skip 10 center front hdc for neck and work to correspond to other side.
Sew shoulder and side seams. On right side with Size G hook, starting at shoulder seam, crochet 1 row of sc around neck, join with sl st to first st.
Row 2: Ch 2, join in first st with a sl st, * ch 2, 1 sl st in next st, repeat from * around neck, join and fasten off.
On right side crochet 1 row of sc around armholes.
HEADBAND
With Size H hook ch 9. Starting in 5th ch from hook work 1 tr in each st, ch 4, turn.
Row 2: 1 tr in each st, ch 4, turn. Repeat Row 2 for 40 inches or desired length. Fasten off.
Fringe: Cut 24 strands 8 inches long. Fold 2 in half and draw through first st at one end then draw ends through loop and tighten. Fringe each st at each end.
