MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz pull skein): 8 (8-9) skeins
Needle: One "Boye" crochet hook Size 0
Gauge: On bodice—1 pat to 1 inch; 2 rows to 1 inch
Yoke
Back: Starting at neck, ch 56 (60-64) loosely to measure 14½ (15½-16½) inches.
Row 1—Right side: Drawing up first loop of dc to ½ inch, work as follows: 1 dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, 1 dc in same st, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next ch, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, in next ch work 1 dc, ch 1 and 1 dc for a "V" st, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next ch for a dc post *, repeat from * to * across. Place a marker at end of row, ch 4, turn: 13 (14-15) V sts.
Row 2: * Work a V st in ch-1 space of V st of previous row, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc post, ch 1, repeat from * across, working last dc in turning-ch, ch 4, turn. Repeat Row 2 until there are 10 (10-9) rows from start and work measures 5 (5-4½) inches long. Width across is 13¼ (14¼-15¼) inches.
Armholes: 1 dc in first space for an inc, ch 1, V st in V st, work in pat across, end last repeat with V st in last V st, 1 dc, ch 1 and 1 dc in turning-ch, ch 5, turn.
Row 2: 1 dc in first ch-1 space, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, V st in V st, work in pat across, end last repeat with 1 dc in last dc, ch 1, V st in turning-ch, ch 5, turn.
Row 3: V st in first ch-1 space, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 ch, V st in V st, work in pat across, end skip last dc, V st, ch 1 and 1 dc in turning-ch to inc 1 pat at each side: 15 (16-17) pats across.
Medium Only: Ch 4, turn. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 once more.
Large Only: Ch 4, turn. Repeat Rows 1, 2 and 3 once more.
All Sizes: Ch 7 and fasten off.
Front: Join yarn at marker on back and work right front shoulder as follows: ** Ch 5, * V st in base of V st, ch 1, 1 dc in base of next post dc, ch 1, repeat from * once more, V st in next V st, ch 1, 1 dc in dc post, ch 4, turn: 3 V sts. Repeat Row 2 of pat as on back 7 times **. Fasten off.
On right side of work, skip 7 (8-9) V sts at back neck, join yarn to base of next dc post. Repeat from ** to ** for left shoulder. Ch 27 (31-35) for front neck, join with sl st to turning-ch at neck edge at right front. Fasten off. Starting at right front armhole, join yarn and ch 4. Work in pat across until there are 3 V sts, ch 1 and dc in turning-ch, repeat from * to * of Row 1 of back across chain of front neck, end 1 dc in first dc on left side, work in pat across other side: 13 (14-15) V sts, ch 4, turn. Work in pat for 3 (3-2) more rows.
Armholes: Work same as on back, do not fasten off after making the ch-7 but join to back at left armhole with a sl st, ch 4 to count as first dc. Do Not Turn. Work across back having V sts over V sts and dc posts over dc posts. Join chain at underarm to front and work across the ch-7 as follows:
Small & Large Only: Ch 1, skip 1 ch, V st in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, V st in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch.
Medium Only: Ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, V st in next ch, ch 1, skip 1, 1 dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch.
All Sizes: Work across front and other armhole as before, join to the ch-4 with a sl st, ch 4.
Yoke: Continue to work around on the 34 (38-42) V sts to 3 inches from underarm, end at left back underarm, ch 4.
To Dec 1 Pat: Yo and draw up a loop in dc post, yo and draw up a loop in center of V, yo and draw up a loop in next dc post (7 loops on hook), yo and draw through 6 loops on hook, yo and through last 2 loops to complete dc, ch 1.
Small Only: * Work 3 V sts, dec 1 pat, work 5 V sts, dec 1 pat, work 3 V sts, dec 1 pat, work 2 V sts, dec 1 pat, repeat from * once more.
Medium Only: * Work 1 V st, dec 1 pat, work 2 V sts, dec 1 pat, work 4 V sts, dec 1 pat, work 2 V sts, dec 1 pat, work 3 V sts, dec 1 pat, work
2 V sts, repeat from * once.
Large Only: * Work 1 V st, dec 1 pat, work 2 V sts, dec 1 pat, work 5 V sts, dec 1 pat, [work 2 V sts, dec 1 pat] 3 times, work 1 V st, repeat from * once more.
All Sizes: 26 (28-30) pats rem. Continue to work around:
Skirt
Row 1: * 2 dc, ch 1 and 2 dc in center of V st for a shell, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc post, ch 1, repeat from * around, end last repeat sl st in 3rd ch of ch-4, ch 4. Repeat Row 1, working the shell in ch-1 space of shell of previous row to 6 (7½-9) inches from yoke.
Next row * 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc in center of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc post, ch 1, repeat from * around, join with sl st, ch 4. Repeat last row to 16 (17½-18) inches from yoke.
Next row drawing up first loop of dc to ¾ inch, work as follows: * 4 dc, ch 3 and 4 dc in center of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc post, ch 1, repeat from * around, join with sl st, ch 5. Repeat last row working to 27 inches or desired length from yoke. Fasten off.
Edging: Join yarn at underarm. On right side, working backward from left to right crochet 1 row of sc around armholes, join and fasten off. Starting at shoulder, work same edging around neck.
Drawstring Belt: Fold a 9-yard strand into thirds. Twist very tightly then fold in half and allow to twist again. Fasten ends. Thread through dec row below bust. Make a knot 2 inches from each end and trim for fringe.
