Directions are for Size 10. Changes for Sizes 12, 14, 16 & 18 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz pull skein): 12 (12-13-14-14) skeins

Needles: One pair each "Boye" Sizes 7 & 9

Gauge: Stockinette St on Size 9—9 sts to 2 inches; 6 rows to 1 inch

Note: Length of coat is about 42 inches from back of neck to hemline. To lengthen or shorten, make adjustment before first dec row.

Back: With Size 7 needles cast on 98 (102-106-110-116) sts. K 1 row and P 1 row for 15 rows. K next P row for turn. K 1 row and P 1 row for 15 more rows. Change to Size 9 needles. Work in St St to 10 inches above turn, end on wrong side. Dec 1 st each side on next row then every 14th row 7 times more. Work on the 82 (86-90-94-100) sts to 33 inches or desired length above turn to underarm, end on wrong side. Width across back is 18 (19-20-21-22) inches.

Raglan Armholes: Bind off 2 (3-3-4-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Raglan Dec Row: K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, K to last 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1. Repeat Raglan Dec Row every other row until 28 (28-30-30-32) sts rem. Bind off.

Left Front: With Size 7 needles cast on 51 (53-55-57-59) sts. Work hem and turn same as on back. Marking beg of next K row for side edge, K 1 row and P 1 row for 15 more rows. Change to Size 9 needles. Work in St St to 12 inches above turn, end on wrong side. Dec 1 st at side edge on next row then dec 1 at same edge every 14th row 7 times more. Work on the 43 (45-47-49-51) sts to match back to underarm, end on wrong side. Width across front is 9½ (10-10½-11-11½) inches.

Raglan Armhole: Bind off 2 (3-3-4-5) at beg of next row. P the 41 (42-44-45-46) sts.

Raglan Dec Row: K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, K to end. Repeat raglan dec every other row until 27 (27-28-28-28) sts rem, end at front edge.

Neck: Bind off 4 (4-5-5-5) at front edge for neck. Bind off 2 sts at neck once then dec 1 at same edge every other row 8 times And At The Same Time continue to dec at raglan until 2 sts rem. Bind off.

Right Front: Work hem and turn same as on left front. Marking end of next K row for side edge, finish to correspond to left front, dec at raglan by working to last 3 sts, K2 tog, K 1.

Sleeves: With Size 7 needles cast on 38 (40-42-44-46) sts. Work hem and turn as on back, working 19 rows before turn instead of 15. K 1 row and P 1 row for 19 rows more. Change to Size 9 needles. Work in St St inc'ing 1 st each side on next row then every 8th row 8 times more. Work on the 56 (58-60-62-64) sts to 17 inches or desired length above turn, end on wrong side. Width of sleeve is 12½ (13-13½-13¾-14¼) inches.

Raglan Sleeve Cap: Bind off 2 (3-3-4-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Repeat Raglan Dec Row of back on next row.

Sizes 12 (14-16-18) only repeat raglan dec row every 4th row 1 (1-2-3) times.

All Sizes repeat raglan dec row every other row until 4 sts rem. P 2 tog twice. Bind off.

Sew raglan seams, joining sleeves to back and fronts. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew hems.

Left Front Band: With Size 7 needles cast on 13 sts.

Row 1—Right side: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows to fit front to neck. Bind off. Sew in place. Place markers for 6 buttons with first one 10 inches above hemline and 6th one 4 rows below top of front band.

Right Front Band: Work same as left front band with buttonholes opposite markers: On right side, work 3 sts, bind off next 6 sts, work to end. Next row cast on 6 sts over button­hole. Sew in place.

Collar: With Size 7 needles cast on 161 (161-165-165-169) sts.

Row 1—Right side: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: K the K sts and P the P sts as they face you.

Row 3: K 1, P 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, work ribbing to last 4 sts, K 2 tog, P 1, K 1. Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until 131 (131-135-135-139) sts rem, end with Row 2. Bind off in ribbing. Sew to neck, leaving front bands free.

Right Pocket: With Size 9 needles cast on 41 sts.

Row 1—Right side: [K 1 and P 1] 5 times, K to end.

Row 2: P to last 10, K 1 and P 1 to end. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 for 6 inches, end on wrong side. Continue in K 1 and P 1 ribbing on all 41 sts for 2 inches. Bind off in ribbing.

Left Pocket: Cast on 41 sts.

Row 1—Right side: K to last 10 sts, P 1 and K 1 to end. Finish to correspond to other pocket. Sew pockets in place.
