Materials
4-ply "main color" knitting worsted (white shown)
4-ply "contrasting color" knitting worsted (pink shown)
Size F or G hook
Yarn needle
3" doll head*
1 pr. 1 ½" hands
1 yd. ½"-wide ribbon for trim (pink satin picot shown)
3" x 3" pc. pink felt for ears
1 "main color" chenille stem
Cotton or polyfil for stuffing
White craft glue
*lf doll head does not have hair, you will need a 6" x ½" strip of fake fur
Follow directions for Pilgrim, omitting the 10th row. When you get to the bottom of the legs start the feet.
Feet
Row 1: Ch 5, 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each ch st, 1 hdc in each 15 hdc of the leg, 1 hdc in the other side of the ch 5; ch 2, turn.
Rows 2, 3, 4: 1 hdc in each hdc; ch 2, turn at end of each row.
Row 5: Fasten off, leaving a 6" piece of yarn. With a yarn needle, sew up the foot.
Collar
Row 1: Crochet approximately 20 sc around the neck opening, starting in front. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: 2 dc in each sc, ch 3, turn.
Row 3: 1 dc then 2 dc in each dc around. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc all around. Fasten off.
Hat
Make a hat as for the clown. Start with one row of contrasting color (pink). Attach main color (white) on 2rd row and continue.
Ears
- Cut the chenille stem in half. Attach yarn to one end. Completely cover with hdc (approx. 33). Repeat for the other ear.
- Bend stems in half and sew to the top of the hat.
- Cut the felt into 2 oval pieces to fit over the openings in the ears. Glue on. Set aside.
Begin Assembly
- Stuff doll firmly with cotton or polyfil.
- Attach hands and head by gluing or sewing into place.
- Stuff hat lightly with polyfil. Glue or stitch it to her head.
Skirt
Row 1: Ch 32, 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each chain stitch, join, ch 3.
Row 2: 2 dc in each hdc, join, ch 3.
Rows 3, 4, 5: 1 dc in each dc. Fasten off.
Finishing
- Make a chain long enough to weave through the top of the skirt. Place skirt on doll and gather on chain. Tie ends of chain in the back, into a bow.
- Chain 2 chains and attach to skirt for straps over each shoulder.
- Weave a pink ribbon thru top of collar and tie into bow. Tie ribbon into a bow around each ankle.
