Materials
4-ply variegated knitting worsted (pastel colors shown)
Size F hook
7" Kewpie doll
(shell st. = 3 dc, ch 1,3 dc in same stitch)

Skirt

Row 1: Ch 36, join; ch 1, sc in each ch, join, ch 1.

Row 2: Skip 1 sc, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc (shell st) in next sc, *skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, skip 1 sc, shell in next sc, repeat from * (9 shells made), ch 3, turn.

Row 3: 2 dc in same space, *sc in ch 1 of the shell, shell st in sc between shells, repeat from *, 3 dc in same space as first 3 dc, ch 1, join, turn.

Row 4: *Shell st in sc between shells, sc in top of next shell using the back thread of the sc, repeat from * around; ch 3, turn.

Row 5: Repeat row 3. Fasten off.

Straps

Row 1: Ch 16, sc in each ch st, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sl st into next 4 sc, skip 3 sc, 4 trc, ch 1, 4 trc in next sc, sl st to the end. Fasten off.

Repeat for second strap.

Place skirt around doll's waist. If it's loose, run yarn in and out of first row. Tie tightly together around doll's waist. Position straps. Sew onto skirt at back and front.

Hat

Row 1: Ch 41, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across, turn.

Row 2: Sl st into first 2 sc, sc across up to last 2 sc, turn.

Rows 3, 4, 5: Repeat row 2.

Row 6: Skip 2 sc, *shell (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sc, skip 2 sc, repeat from * (4 shells made), turn.

Row 7: Sl st up to ch in first shell, *shell in between the 2 shells, sl st into ch in next shell, repeat from * (3 shells made), turn.

Row 8: Repeat row 7 (2 shells made).

Row 9: Sl st into ch 1 in next shell, 3 trc, ch 1, 3 trc in between 2 shells, sl st into top of next shell. Fasten off.

Attach yarn at one end of beginning chain, ch 15 for a tie. Fasten off. Repeat at the other end.

Tie the hat at the back of the doll's head. Push straight pin thru hat to hold it in place on head.
