MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva KNITTING WORSTED (4 oz pull skein) OR NANTUK 4-PLY KNITTING YARN (2 or 4 oz pull-skein) — 10 ozs
Needle: One "Boye" crochet hook Size I (J)

Gauge: On Size 1: 1 ch-3 loop to 1 inch
On Size J: 2 ch-3 loops to 2¼ inches

Back: Ch 10 for first shoulder edge.

Row 1: 1 sc in 6th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from * once, ch 5, turn. Row 2: 1 sc in first ch-3 loop, * ch 3, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * once, ch 5, turn. Rows 3 through 9: Repeat Row 2 omitting ch 5 at end of Row 9 only. Fasten off. Ch 10 for 2nd shoulder. Work same as be­fore but do not fasten off, ch 5, turn.

Neck: 1 sc in first loop, * ch 3, 1 sc in next loop *, repeat from * to * once, ch 22, 1 sc in last ch-5 loop of other shoulder, repeat from * to * twice, ch 3, 1 sc in last sc, ch 5, turn.

Row 1: 1 sc in first loop, * ch 3, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * once, ch 3, 1 sc in first ch on neck, ** ch 3, skip 2, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from ** 6 times more, ch 3, 1 sc in next loop, work to end, ch 5, turn. There are 14 loops across. Row 2: 1 sc in first loop, * ch 3, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * across, ch 5, turn. Rows 3 through 7: Repeat Row 2 omitting ch-5 at end of last row. Fasten.

Front: Same as back, do not fasten off, ch 5, turn. Join to back by working across front, ch 11 for underarm, 1 sc in ch-5 loop on back, work across back, end 1 sc in last sc, ch 11, sl st in ch-5 loop on front, fasten off.

Body: Join in center ch at underarm. Row 1: 1 sc in same ch, ch 3, skip 2, 1 sc in next ch, ch 3, skip 2, 1 sc in first loop on front, work across front, end 1 sc in last loop, * ch 3, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from * twice more, ch 3, 1 sc in first loop on back, work across back, end 1 sc in last loop, ch 3, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 3, join with sl st to first sc — 34 loops. Mark beg of rows. Row 2: Ch 3, * 1 sc in next loop, ch 3, repeat from * around. Width at bust is 34 (38) inches around. Work around on the 34 loops for 21 more rows. Next row work in pat, end 1 sc in last loop, ch 3, join — 35 loops around.

Start Fan Pat: Mark first loop for start. * Ch 3, 1 sc in next loop *, repeat from * to * twice, ** ch 5 for fan loop, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * to * 6 times, repeat from ** 3 times more, ch 5 for fan, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * to * 4 times, sl st in first loop. Row 2: * Work loops to ch-5 fan loop, ch 2, work 6 sc in fan, ch 2, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * 4 times more, work to end. Row 3: * Work to ch-2 space, ch 2, 2 dc in first sc, 1 dc in next 4 sc, 2 dc in last sc, ch 2, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * 4 times more, work to end. Row 4: * Work to next ch-2, ch 2, ** 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc each of next 2, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from ** once, ch 2, 1 sc in next ch-3 loop, repeat from * 4 times more, work to end. Row 5: * Work to ch-2, ch 2, 1 dc in each of next 3, ** ch 1, 1 dc in next 3, repeat from ** twice more, ch 2, 1 sc in next ch-3 loop, repeat from * 4 times, work to end. Row 6: * Work to ch-2, ** ch 2, 1 dc in next 3 dc, repeat from ** 3 times more, ch 2, 1 sc in next ch-3, repeat from * 4 times more, work to end.

Row 7: * Ch 3, skip ch-2, ** skip 1 dc, 1 sc in center dc of next 3-dc, ch 3, 1 sc in next ch-2 space, ch 3, repeat from ** twice, 1 sc in center dc of next 3-dc, ch 3, skip ch-2, 1 sc in next ch-3 loop, repeat from * 4 times more, ch 3, skip ch-2, 1 sc in next ch-3, 40 loops around. Mark last sc for start of row. Row 8: * Ch 3, 1 sc in next loop *, repeat from * to * 5 times more, ** ch 5 for fan loop, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * to * 7 times, ch 5 for fan, 1 sc in next loop, ch 3, 1 sc in first loop. Rows 9 through 13: Repeat Rows 2 through 6, end Row 13 ch 3, skip last ch-2 after last fan, 1 sc in next ch-3. Row 14: Work in loop pat as on Row 7 — 45 loops around, end 1 sc in ch-3 loop before fan. Mark start of row. Row 15: * Ch 3, 1 sc in next loop *, repeat from * to * 7 times more, ** ch 5 for fan, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * to * 8 times, repeat from ** 3 times more, ch 5 for last fan, 1 sc in next loop — 5 fans around and 8 ch-3 loops between. Continue in pat until fans are complete, end 1 sc in next loop. Next Row: Work as Row 7 on 50 ch-3 loops.

Picots: * Ch 2, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, 1 sc in next loop, repeat from * around, join and fasten off.

Seam shoulders. Work picots around neck and armholes.
