RED HEART® "Super Saver®", Art. E300 (8 ounce/425 yard solid; 6 ounce/327 yard multi-color skein); 5 ounces No. 0312 Black CA; 3 ounces No. 0723 Pinata CC.
MODA DEA™ "Cheri™'', Art. R125 (1.76 ounce/81 yard ball): 6 Balls No. 9002 Black CB.
Crochet Hook: 6.5mm [US K-10.5].
Yarn needle.
GAUGE: 10 sts = 4"; 11 rows = 4" in pat. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
TO CHANGE COLOR IN SC: Work the last sc before color change until 2 lps remain on hook, drop color in use, with next color to be used yo and draw through 2 lps on hook, then proceed with new color.
NOTE: Carry yarn not in use loosely across wrong side of fabric, working over yarn every few stitches to secure. Fasten off colors when no longer needed.
PATTERN ROWS:
Pat Row 1: With CA, ch 1, sc in first 7 sc, [with CB, sc in next 7 sc, with CA, sc in next 7 sc] twice; turn.
Pat Row 2: With CB, ch 1, sc in first 7 sc, [with CC, sc in next 7 sc, with CB, sc in next 7 sc] twice; turn.
FIRST RECTANGLE: With CA, ch 36.
Row 1 (Right Side): With CA, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 6 ch changing to CB in last sc, with CB, sc in next 7 ch changing to CA in last sc, with CA, sc in next 7 ch changing to CB in last sc, with CB, sc in next 7 ch changing to CA in last sc, with CA, sc in last 7 ch; turn - 35 sts.
Rows 2-8: Work Pat Row 1.
Rows 9-16: Work Pat Row 2.
Rows 17-24: Work Pat Row 1.
Rep Rows 9-24 three more times. Fasten off. Rectangle should measure approximately 14" by 26".
SECOND RECTANGLE: With right side facing, turn to work across side of first rectangle starting at beg ch.
Row 1 (Right Side): Attach CB to side of first rec¬tangle; ch 1, [With CB, work 7 sc evenly spaced across CA square, with CC, work 7 sc evenly spaced across CB square] twice, with CB, work 7 sc evenly spaced across CA square; turn - 35 sts.
Rows 2-8: Work Pat Row 2.
Rows 9-16: Work Pat Row 1.
Rows 17-24: Work Pat Row 2.
Rep Rows 9-24 three more times. Fasten off.
FINISHING: Sew last row of first rectangle to upper left side of 2nd rectangle across 5 squares of plaid.
Neck and Lower Edgings: With right side facing, attach CA at opening; ch 1, sc evenly spaced around, taking care to keep work flat; join with a sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Attached Scarf-Row 1: With CB, ch 50, with right side facing, starting at left shoulder area, sc in each sc around neck opening, ch 51; turn.
Row 2: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sc in each sc around neck, sc in each ch to end; turn.
Rows 3-12: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Fasten off.
Fringe: Cut CA and CC yarn in 7 ½" lengths. Using 2 strands of yarn for each fringe, fold yarn in half forming a loop. Insert hook from the wrong side of the fabric into sc and into the loop; draw yarn through the stitch; draw the ends of the yarn through the loop. Pull to tighten. Trim ends. Repeat on each sc around lower edge of poncho arranging colors as follows: If attaching to a CA square, use 2 strands CA. If attaching to a CB square, use 1 strand CA and 1 strand CC. If attaching to a CC square, use 2 strands CC.
