Tips & Hints

Circular needles have a flexible cord between two needle heads and are available in many sizes and lengths. Both flat knitting (knitting back and forth in rows) or circular knitting (joining the stitches to work around in rounds) can be done on a circular needle. The needles are especially useful when working with large numbers of stitches.

Join a new ball of yarn when there are approximately 6" of yarn left from the old ball, also leaving a 6" tail of yarn with the joined yarn. Weave these ends in neatly on the wrong side of the fabric in a zig-zag pattern for a few inches, and then trim off excess.

ABBREVIATIONS: K = knit; mm = millimeters; P = purl; rep = repeat; St st = Stockinette stitch (K 1 row; P 1 row); st(s) = stitch(es)
