SUPPLIES

Directions are for babies aged 12 months to 2 years.

TLC® “Wiggles™”, Art. E518 (3.5 ounce/250 yard ball): 2 Balls No. 503 Orchid.

Crochet Hook: 4 mm [US G-6]. Yarn needle; one 5/8" button; sewing needle and thread.

GAUGE: 17 sts = 4"; 8 rnds = 4" in dc. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:

Cl (cluster): [yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps] twice all in next dc, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Split cl: [yo and draw up a lp in next sp, yo and draw through 2 lps] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Dec: [yo and draw up a lp in next st, yo and draw through 2 lps] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Ch 152; join with sl st in first ch to form ring, taking care not to twist chain.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, dc in each ch around; join with sl st to top of ch 3 – 152 sts. This is the left side edge.

Rnd 2: Ch 4, skip next dc, * dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc; rep from * around; join to 3rd ch of ch-4.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in each sp and dc around; join.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * ch 3, skip next 3 dc, (cl, ch 3, cl) all in next dc, ch 3, skip next 3 dc **, sc in next dc; rep from * around, end at **; join.

Rnd 5: Sl st across first ch-3 and cl and into next ch-3 sp, ch 1, * ([sc, ch 3] twice, sc) all in ch-3 sp, ch 3, split cl, ch 3; rep from * around; join. Fasten off.

Rnd 6: Join yarn to top of next split cl; ch 3, 4 dc in same st, ch 3, * 5 dc in next split cl, ch 3; rep from * around; join.

Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, [3 dc in next sp, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 5 dc] 9 times, 2 dc in last sp; join – 142 sts.

Rnd 8: Rep Rnd 2.

Rnd 9: Ch 3, * [dc in next sp, dc in next dc] 4 times, dec over next sp and next dc; rep from * to last sp; dc in last sp; join – 128 sts.

Rnd 10: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join.

Rnd 11: Ch 3, dc in next 13 dc, dec, [dc in next 14 dc, dec] 7 times; join – 120 sts.

Rnd 12: Ch 3, dc in next 12 dc, dec, [dc in next 13 dc, dec] 7 times; join – 112 sts.

Rnd 13: Ch 3, dc in next 11 dc, dec, [dc in next 12 dc, dec] 7 times; join – 104 sts.

Rnd 14: Ch 3, dc in next 9 dc, dec, [dc in next 10 dc, dec, dc in next 9 dc, dec] 4 times; join – 95 sts.

Divide for Neck Opening-Row 15: Ch 3, dc in next 9 dc, dec, dc in next 10 dc, dec, dc in next 4 dc. Fasten off. Skip next dc (center front); join yarn in next dc; ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, dec, [dc in next 10 dc, dec] 5 times; join – 86 sts. Fasten off.

Row 16: Join yarn to top of ch-3 after center front – row started; ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, [dec, dc in next 8 dc] 8 times, dec, dc in last dc – 77 sts. Fasten off.

Row 17: Start row; ch 3, dc in next dc, [dec, dc in next 4 dc] 12 times, dec, dc in last dc – 64 sts. Fasten off.

Row 18: Start row; ch 3, [dec, dc in next 3 dc] 12 times, dec, dc in last dc – 51 sts. Fasten off.

Row 19: Start row; ch 3, [dec, dc in next 2 dc] 12 times, dec – 38 sts. Fasten off.

Lower Edging: Join yarn to remaining lp of beg ch at left side edge; ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * skip next 3 ch, (4 dc; ch 3, sl st in last dc – picot made; 3 dc) all in next ch, skip next 3 ch **, sc in next ch; rep from * around, end at **; join. Fasten off.

Hood: Beg at face edge, ch 66.

Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 64 sts.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc across and in top of ch-3; turn.

Rows 3 to 5: Ch 3, dec, dc in each dc to last 3 sts; dec, dc in top of ch-3; turn – 58 sts at end of Row 5.

Rows 6 to 12: Rep Row 2.

Rows 13 and 14: Sl st in first 9 sts, ch 1, sc in same st as last sl st, hdc in next st, dc to last 10 sts; hdc in next st, sc in next st; turn – 26 sts at end of Row 14. Fasten off. Fold hood in half and sew center back seam. Sew hood to neck edge.

Hood and Neck Edging-Rnd 1: With RS facing, join yarn in remaining lp of beg ch of Hood at right neck seam; ch 1, sc in each ch to left neck seam, 8 sc down left neck edge, sc in center dc, 8 sc up right neck edge; join.

Rnd 2: Working from LEFT to RIGHT, work reverse sc in each sc around; join. Fasten off.

Button Loop: With RS facing, join yarn at right front neck edge; ch 9; join in same st as joining. Fasten off. Sew button to correspond to loop.
