Multiple of 6 plus 2 sts

With size 9 needles, cast on 38 sts.

Row 1-right side-P 2, * k 4, p 2; repeat from * to end.

Rows 2 and 4-K 2, * p 4, k 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 3-* P 2, with yarn at back insert right needle from front to back between 4th and 5th st on left needle, draw up a loop, k the 4 sts, then slip top thread of long loop over the 4 k sts *; repeat between *'s, end p 2.

Row 5-K 3, * p 2, k 4; repeat from *, end p 2, k 3.

Row 6-P 3, * k 2, p 4; repeat from *, end last repeat p 3.

Row 7-K 1, † with yarn at back, insert right needle from front to back between 2nd and 3rd sts on left needle, k the 2 sts, then sl the top thread of long loop over the 2 k sts †; repeat between *'s of row 3 to within 3 sts; repeat between †'s once, k 1.

Row 8-Same as row 6.

Repeat these 8 rows for pat. until 53 rows-about 8 ins. from beg., end on right side with pat. row 5. Bind off in pat.
