With size 9 needles, cast on 44 sts.

Row 1-and All Uneven Numbered Rows-wrong side-K 2, * p 5, k 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 2-P 2, * cross next 2 sts as follows:-skipping first st on left needle, k through back loop of next st, retain on needle, k the skipped st, drop both sts from left needle, k 3, p 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 4-P 2, * k 1, cross next 2 sts as before, k 2, p 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 6-P 2, * k 2, cross next 2 sts, k 1, p 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 8-P 2, * k 3, cross next 2 sts, p 2; repeat from * to end.

Repeat these 8 rows for pat. until 55 rows-about 8 ins. from beg., end on wrong side with pat. row 7. Bind off in pat.
