CROCHETED BAGS

Bags measure approximately 9" high x 17" wide.

TLC® ''Essentials™'', Art. E514 (6 ounce solid/4 1/2 ounce multicolor skeins):

Version I: 4 1/2 Ounces No. 2958 Falling Leaves; Handle Darice #1972-11; Button 1" diameter.

Version II: 3 Ounces No. 2855 Navy CA; 1 1/2 ounces No. 2348 Purple Mist CB; Handle Darice #1972-09; Button 7/8" diameter.

Crochet Hook: 5.5 mm [US I-9]. Yarn needle.

GAUGE: In dc: 14 sts = 4"; 8 rows = 4". CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size crochet hook to obtain the gauge.

VERSION I-Front: Ch 27. Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 26 sts. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in first sc, * 2 dc in next sc; rep from * across; turn - 52 sts.

Rows 3-6: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc in each dc across to last st; 2 dc in top of ch-3; turn - 60 sts at end of Row 6. Rows 7-13: Ch 3, skip first dc, dc in each dc across and in top of ch-3; turn. Rows 14-18: Ch 2, skip first dc, [yo and draw up a lp in next st, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, yo and draw through 3 lps on hook - beg double dec made; dc in each de to last 3 sts; [yo and draw up a lp in next st, yo and draw through 2 lps] 3 times, yo and draw through 4 lps on hook - double dec made; turn - 40 sts at end of Row 18. Row 19: Ch 1; * draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and draw through 3 lps on hook - sc-dec made; rep from * across; turn - 20 sts. Tab-Rows 20-26: Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn. Fasten off.

Back: With RS facing, attach yarn and work 26 sc across opposite side of beg ch; turn. Rep Rows 2-26 of Front.

FINISHING: Sew side seams from Row 1 to Row 14. Attach yarn at top edge and work 1 row sc across shaped edge, across seam and up to next top edge. Fasten off. Rep on opposite side. Bring tab through the handle slot to WS and sew to Row 19. Button Loop: Ch 45, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. Sew ends together on RS of center back of purse at Row 19; sew loop together for approximately 2 1/2". Sew button to center front at Row 19.

VERSION II: Work same as Version I EXCEPT work Rows 1-3 with CA, then alternate 2 rows CB, 2 rows CA, working tab Rows 20-26 with CA and button loop with CB. Fold tab over the circular handle.

KNIT BAGS

Bags measure approximately 10 1/2" high x 11 1/2" wide.

TLC® "Essentials™", Art. E514 (6 ounce solid/4 1/2 ounce multicolor skeins):

Version I: 6 1/2 Ounces No. 2313 Aran; Handle Darice # 1972-10; Button 1" diameter.

Version II: 7 Ounces No. 2675 Dk. Thyme; Handle Darice # 1972-13; Button 1" diameter.

Knitting Needles: 6.5 mm [US 10.5] and 5 mm [US 8]. Cable Stitch Holder. Yarn needle.

GAUGE: 12 sts = 4"; 21 rows = 4" in Seed Stitch with larger needles and 2 strands held together. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

VERSION I-Front and Back (Alike): ** With 2 strands held together as one and larger needles, cast on 38 sts. Row 1 (WS): [K1, P1] 5 times, [K2, P2] 4 times, K2, [P1, K1] 5 times. Row 2: [K1, P1] 5 times, K1, [P1, sl next st onto cable holder and hold at back of work, K1, then K1 from holder, P1] 4 times, K1, [P1, K1] 5 times.

Row 3: [K1, P1] 5 times, [K2, P1, yo, P1] 4 times, K2, [P1, K1] 5 times - 42 sts. Row 4: [K1, P1] 5 times, K1, [P1, K3, P1] 4 times, K1, [P1, K1] 5 times. Row 5: [K1, P1] 5 times, [K2, P3] 4 times, K2, [P1, K1] 5 times. Row 6: [K1, P1] 5 times, K1, [P1, sl 2 sts onto cable holder and hold at back of work, K1, then K2tog from holder, P1] 4 times, K1, [P1, K1] 5 times - 38 sts.

Rep Rows 3-6 twelve more times. **

Bind off in pat, dec 1 st over each of the 4 cables.

FINISHING: Sew side and bottom seams. Handle Tabs (Make 4): With 2 strands of yarn and larger needles, cast on 3 sts. Rows 1-14: K1, P1, K1. Bind off. Center handles on bag, insert a tab through each handle open¬ing and sew to bag. Button Loop: With one strand of yarn and smaller needles, cast on 31 sts. Bind off. Sew ends to top edge of center back. Sew button to front.

VERSION II: Work same as Version I from ** to **. Top Flap: Bind off 6 sts, work in pat to last 6 sts, bind off last 6 sts - 26 sts. With RS facing, attach yarn and continue in established pats for 7 more rows. Bind off in pat, dec 1 st over each of the 4 cables.

FINISHING: Fold top flap over handle to WS and sew in place. Make button loop same as Version I. Attach loop and button same as Version I.
