Japanese-Style Beef Bowl Recipe

Even using steak, this is quite an economical meal and extremely tasty. Using a relatively cheap cut of meat, which you can tenderize by ‘bashing’ with a rolling pin, or using a higher quality steak, the dish turns out really well.

Serves: 2
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

1 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, thickly sliced
9 oz thin cut steak or frying steak
4 tbsp teriyaki sauce
1 tbsp finely grated ginger
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
9 oz pouch of microwave long grain rice
2 spring onions, sliced diagonally

METHOD:

Heat oil in a frying pan and cook onion until soft, approx 5 minutes.

Add the steak and stir fry with the onion for another 2 minutes.

Mix together the teriyaki sauce, ginger and garlic and stir into the meat mixture.

Cook for 1-2 minutes more, adding a little water if beginning to dry. Remove from the heat.

Cook the rice following the packet instructions. Divide between two bowls, spoon over the steak mixture and top with the spring onions.

Serve.
